City officials have paused plans for a police shooting range and training complex on wooded city-owned land. Residents living across a canal from the site raised concerns about the noise and about building on the natural area. The Palm Beach Post reported the pause on August 10. Paused is the operative word here. The proposal is not canceled and it is not approved, but it is no longer moving on the track it was on. If you live near that canal, this is the rare case where showing up to complain about noise appears to have worked, at least for now.
Pig-Sty BBQ moves in with The Bungalow
Pig-Sty BBQ closed its old Boynton Beach spot, but the smoker is not going quiet. The barbecue operation is moving inside The Bungalow Bar and Grill, according to the Palm Beach Post. The plan is to reopen August 26 as a permanent pop-up, bringing the menu and a four-person staff along with it. Restaurant inside a restaurant is a strange arrangement on paper. In practice it means you get ribs and a full bar in the same room. August 26 is the announced date, so call ahead before you drive over hungry.
Ten years of meals, and half a million of them
The Soup Kitchen on Boynton Beach Boulevard is marking ten years of its Meals on Wheels program. In that time volunteers have delivered more than 520,000 meals to homebound seniors across Palm Beach County. On a typical day, drivers reach somewhere between 90 and 120 people. That number is about to grow. A $100,000 Impact 100 grant is meant to push service into Delray Beach and clear the program's waitlist. Allegro senior living changes hands for $62 million
The Allegro senior living community in Boynton Beach has a new owner. Healthpeak Properties bought the property from Kayne Anderson Real Estate for $62 million, the South Florida Business Journal reported on August 4. It stays a senior living facility. What changed is the name on the deed, not the building or what happens inside it. The CRA now owns 5.65 acres on West Boynton Beach Boulevard
Piece by piece, the CRA has put together a block. The agency has assembled 5.65 acres around 480 and 444 West Boynton Beach Boulevard and 457 NW First Avenue. It bought the 2.11-acre former Inn at Boynton Beach site for $8.1 million in October 2025 and tore the building down that December. Then came 3.3 more acres for $7.25 million in April, and another quarter acre for $600,000 in May. Residents sent in 1,038 responses about what should go there. No developer and no final plan have been announced, so the land sits assembled and waiting.
Quilters take over the Florida Room Thursday afternoon
The library's Quilters Group meets Thursday, August 20, starting at 1 p.m. It happens in the Florida Room on the second floor of City Hall, and it is an adults program.
